Jackson Savage moved to New Braunfels in 2021, knowing no one in the area. Fast forward to today, he has a wife, a son, and is on the verge of launching his own orthodontic practice.
After completing medical school and residency, Jackson relocated to New Braunfels for a career opportunity in orthodontics. Coming from the bustling Dallas-Fort Worth area, he found the transition to a smaller town significant.
“Leaving a large city like Dallas to what I thought was a very small town was a leap of faith,” Jackson said. “I just didn’t know that my wife was waiting for me here.”
Upon arriving in New Braunfels, Jackson faced challenges finding immediate housing. While he had secured an apartment that would be ready in a month, he had nowhere to stay initially. A distant family friend living in town offered him a guest room until his apartment was available. It turned out that this house was directly across the street from where his future wife grew up.
Eager to meet new people, Jackson introduced himself to everyone he encountered. One morning, while enjoying biscuits and gravy at Union Station Diner before heading to Landa Park for golf, he struck up a conversation with the waitress. A man at a nearby table overheard their exchange and began asking Jackson about his background and motivations.
That man was the owner of the diner and the father of Sara Kathryn, who would become Jackson’s wife. After their initial encounter, Jackson reached out to Sara Kathryn on Facebook. They soon started attending church together and went out for lunch and ice cream.
Four months later, Jackson proposed to Sara Kathryn at the diner where they first met. Just four months after that, they were married.
“That moment in the diner changed my life,” Jackson reflected. “I told her that I wanted to take care of her and be with her.”
Shortly after their wedding, Sara Kathryn announced she was pregnant. At the same time, Jackson discovered an opportunity to open his own orthodontic practice—a lifelong dream. He took another leap of faith and began the process of launching Savage Orthodontics.
“It’s easier to stay secure with a steady paycheck than to think about starting a business with student loans, a mortgage, and a baby on the way,” Jackson explained. “But once I made that decision in my heart, I felt an immense wave of relief; I knew it was right.”
After months of hard work from both Jackson and Sara Kathryn, Savage Orthodontics is set to open on November 1 in the MarketPlace shopping center.
