Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) has been recognized with a national award for its innovative Digital Dentures project. This achievement highlights the team’s commitment to advancing dental care technology.
OHST was named the overall winner in the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) national Project Management.
Achievement Awards 2024 in the ICT/Telecommunications category.
This award reflects the hard work and dedication of the team involved in the project.
The organization has made significant investments in digital denture technology across Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, and Hobart. This includes acquiring 3D printing, milling, and design technologies to create dentures digitally instead of using traditional handcrafting methods.
Over the past two years, the Digital Dentures project has successfully produced dentures that are more comfortable, precise, and durable. It has also reduced the number of patient appointments needed for constructing dentures and appliances. The Tasmanian Government has supported this initiative, enabling an additional 25,350 appointments for patients needing dental care.
Rhiannon Thomas, the project lead for Digital Dentures at OHST, shared that more than 4,000 patients have received new dentures using this digital technology since its introduction. “This project has saved patients travel time and increased our capacity to deliver more dental appointments,” said Thomas.
“Good oral health is essential for overall health and well-being. It allows people to eat and speak without pain or embarrassment,” she added.
The national winners were announced during the AIPM gala dinner held in Canberra. This recognition underscores OHST’s leadership in dental innovation and its commitment to improving patient care through advanced technology.
