DigiRay, a network specializing in radiology and dental tomography, has expanded its operations in Romania by acquiring three Maraffka clinics located in Ploiești, approximately 60 kilometers north of Bucharest. This marks DigiRay’s third acquisition, following the purchase of Dental Scan centers in Bucharest in 2021 and YTS Dental View in Oradea earlier this year.
Founded in 2011 by Dr. Cristian Pop in Zalău, DigiRay (Clinică Dentară S.A) has seen significant growth. The investment fund Black Sea Fund became the majority stakeholder in the company in 2023.
With the addition of the Maraffka clinics, DigiRay now operates a network of 31 dental imaging centers and one dental laboratory in Cluj-Napoca. These facilities span 19 cities across Romania, including Bucharest, Bacău, Baia Mare, Bistrița, Botoșani, Brăila, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Galați, Oradea, Ploiești, Pitești, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava, Târgu Mureș, and Zalău. This year, the company anticipates a turnover of €7.6 million, reflecting a 52% increase from last year’s €5 million. DigiRay’s workforce has also expanded to 184 employees.
“The acquisition of the Maraffka dental radiology centers in Ploiești supports our goal of serving more patients across Romania,” said Iulian Nica-Șerban, CEO of DigiRay. “This move is part of our strategy for growth through both new projects and acquisitions. We plan to continue this expansion into 2025 as opportunities arise. Our commitment to excellence in dental radiology will help strengthen patient and dentist trust in our services.”
Black Sea Fund (BSF), established in 2018 with an investment budget of €43 million, focuses on fast-growing medium-sized companies. It has invested between €4 million and €8 million per company and counts the European Investment Fund as its main investor.
DigiRay’s expansion reflects a growing trend towards improving access to dental care across Romania and enhancing the quality of services available to patients.
