Pepsodent, a leading advocate for oral hygiene, has launched a successful school awareness campaign across Nigeria to mark World Oral Health Day 2025. The initiative aimed to promote healthy oral habits among children in various schools across the country.
World Oral Health Day, celebrated every year on March 20th, encourages people to take charge of their oral health, which is an important indicator of overall well-being and quality of life.
The school campaign took place in several states, including Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Rivers, and Oyo, reaching thousands of students through interactive learning sessions and activities designed to highlight the importance of proper oral hygiene.
The campaign was held in 52 schools across Lagos, 4 in Oyo, 5 in Enugu, 7 in Rivers, and 5 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. In Lagos, Unilever Nigeria, through its Pepsodent brand, underscored its commitment to improving oral health by teaching students key habits for maintaining strong teeth.
At events held in African Church Primary School, Karaole Primary School, Coker Memorial Primary School, and Ayanleye Memorial Primary School in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Mary Akindola, Pepsodent’s Brand Manager, stressed the importance of early oral health education in preventing long-term dental problems.
Akindola also encouraged children to limit sugar intake and emphasized the importance of regular dental check-ups, noting that most oral health issues are preventable with the simple habit of brushing twice a day, morning and night, for at least two minutes.
Afomre Ubogu, Internal Communications Manager at Unilever Nigeria, highlighted the crucial role of parents, teachers, and community members in fostering good oral care practices among children.
Oluwayemisi Adebambo, Headteacher at African Church Primary School, expressed gratitude on behalf of other school leaders for the initiative and promised to reinforce the campaign’s message during the next Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting to ensure that parents continue promoting good oral hygiene at home.
Pepsodent’s school awareness campaign is part of its ongoing effort to raise awareness about oral health in Nigeria. By 2025, the campaign has reached over 30,000 children, representing a more than 400% increase from the previous year.
