JAMMU, Sept 22: Dr. Akshay Gupta, a renowned Professor of Orthodontics at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of orthodontics at the 58th Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) Conference in Bangalore.
The award, presented by IOS president-elect Dr. Sridevi, honored Dr. Gupta’s efforts in advancing orthodontic practice and raising awareness about the specialty. The ceremony, held at a special event during the conference, was also attended by IOS joint secretary Dr. Amit and Dr. Aravind, Dean of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, which is ranked as India’s top dental institution by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Dr. Gupta’s contributions include organizing the Smile Rally in Jammu and orthodontic awareness camps. He also founded the Jammu Orthodontic Study Group (JOSG), a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region. Under his leadership, JOSG hosted the inaugural J&K Orthodontic Symposium in November 2023, a major event on the IOS presidential calendar. The symposium drew participants from leading institutions like AIIMS, PGI, and KGMC.
At the IOS Conference, held at Clark’s Exotica from September 20-22, Dr. Gupta chaired a scientific session on research paper presentations by guest speakers. He also served as a judge for competitive research presentations by orthodontic professionals from across India.
