The University of Southern Indiana (USI) Dental Clinic, located in the Health Professions Center on campus, is providing free preventive dental care to U.S. military veterans during the Fall and Spring semesters. Services include dental exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
Emily Holt, Chair of the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Programs, explained that many local veterans have limited access to V.A.-sponsored dental care. “The services offered at the USI Dental Clinic will fill this gap and initiate further care for these individuals,” she said.
Veterans interested in receiving care must make an appointment by calling 812-464-1706. They will need to present proof of military affiliation along with a photo ID.
The USI Dental Clinic is a modern facility that provides a valuable learning environment for dental hygiene students while offering essential oral health services to the community. Patients receive comprehensive assessments, consultations, and treatments tailored to their individual needs. Faculty members supervise the students as they work in the clinic.
Holt advised patients to plan for their appointments to take about 3.5 hours due to the teaching nature of the clinic. “Please keep this in mind when scheduling your visit,” she said.
After treatment, patients are encouraged to follow up with their family dentist for any necessary examinations or additional dental work.
The Dental Hygiene Program at USI is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, ensuring high standards in education and care.
