DUBAI: In a significant move towards inclusivity, Dubai has opened the UAE’s first autism-friendly dental clinic. The Dubai Autism Center (DAC) established this innovative facility in partnership with Curaden to cater specifically to the oral health needs of individuals with autism. Located within the DAC premises, the clinic features advanced dental technology and a sensory-sensitive environment designed to provide a comfortable experience for patients.
At the launch event, Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of DAC, highlighted the center’s commitment to supporting individuals with special needs. “This clinic aligns with our mission to make Dubai a truly inclusive city. It’s a milestone in ensuring access to essential services for everyone in our community,” he stated.
Tailored Services for Autism Spectrum Needs
The clinic is designed with features such as dimmed lighting, noise-canceling headphones, and calming colors to create a soothing atmosphere. It offers various services, including routine check-ups, dental cleanings, and cavity treatments. The staff, trained at DAC, employs empathetic communication techniques to address patients’ sensory sensitivities with care and patience.
Joyce Chamoun, Business Development Manager at DAC, described the clinic as more than just a dental office. “This clinic isn’t just a space—it’s a lifeline for individuals on the autism spectrum. We’ve reimagined every detail to create a safe, supportive environment that empowers patients and their families,” she explained.
A Partnership for Impact
Curaden MEA played a crucial role in launching this initiative. Paul Tamer, Managing Director of Curaden MEA, expressed pride in the project: “Our goal is to make oral care accessible for everyone.
Through this partnership, we’re redefining how dental care is delivered to individuals with autism.”
Angela Couto, Regional Education Manager at Curaden MEA, emphasized the educational aspect of the clinic: “We’ve created a space not only to provide care but also to teach individuals essential oral hygiene practices that foster lifelong habits.”
